On Thursday, 31 July 2008, ALOHA FESTIVAL OF RENO will kick-off this year's 3-day event, in conjunction with ARTOWN, a month long arts festival, which includes arts and production events of all genre throughout the City of Reno during the entire month of July.  ALOHA FESTIVAL OF RENO will feature Polynesian entertainment and vendors of Polynesian cuisine and arts.  This is event is free to the public and will be held in the Plaza adjacent to the Reno Ballroom and our host hotel Silver Legacy Hotel-Casino.  Entertainers, Food and Arts & Craft vendors interested in participating in this 3-day event can obtain all information by filling out the inquiry form found on the following LINK:

                                    Heiva I Reno 2008 presents - MEHARA

On Friday, August 1ST, in celebration of our 10th Year , Pacific Exchange Productions invites all Halau, Groups, dance schools and dance companies to participate in a one of kind  celebration of the days gone by when the dance of Tahiti was simple, innocent and beautiful.  This year Heiva I Reno 2008 presents MEHARA  “ Memory” to be held in the RENO BALLROOM adjacent to this event's host hotel Silver Legacy Hotel-Casino.  Reno will come alive with the sounds and sights of TAHITI.  Halau, Groups, dance schools and dance companies will compete in Solo and Group categories. 
  
All participating groups will present their most Traditional piece in a 15 minute presentation which centers on the everyday life in Tahiti (ie: fishing, harvesting copra, family life, are'are'a , tamaaraa) with the following required components in their presentation:

	1.	Ra’atira Orero (Opening)
	2.	Ote'a – must include Entrance
	3.	Arofa – Salute must be presented by Ra'atira
	4.	Following the Arofa, presentation to continue with: (not necessarily in the following order)
		:	second Ote'a (Groups may select to Exit for a costume change into Aparima or Couples)
		:	Aparima
		:	Couples
	5.	Finale

Each group must consist of the following performers (minimum age 13):
    (Note:  Participants List must accompany Entry Form;  No substitutions permitted)
Ra'atira – 1
Dancers – 8 minimum; 15 maximum 
Couple – 1 vahine, 1 tane
Musicians – 3 minimum; 8 maximum – consisting of drummers, musicians, vocals

Time Limit:  15 minutes maximum

The group best depicting this year's theme will be presented a special Adjudicator's Pick Award of $1000 cash and will be presented the PAULINE TEMATAI CARILLO-DEXTER Perpetual Trophy

     Ka La Hula I Reno 2008 presents Joseph Kamoha’i Kahaulelio Hapa Haole Hula Festival

On Saturday, August 2ND, Ka La Hula i Reno  presents the Joseph Kamoha''i Kahaulelio Hapa Haole Hula Festival  to be held also in the new Reno Ballroom adjacent to this event's host hotel Silver Legacy Hotel-Casino.   
The following Hula 'Auana categories are open to all Hula Halau, dance studios and dance troupes:
	✿	Hula Keiki 
	✿	Hula Wahine 
	✿	Hula Kane 
	✿	Hula Ku'i (Couples)
	✿	Hula Medley

We are honored to have the following Kumu Hula adjudicate Ka La Hula i Reno 2008

Vicky Holt Takamine, Kumu Hula – Pua Ali'i 'Ilima Halau
Naomi Leina'ala Kalama, Kumu Hula – Ka Pa Hula Kanoelehuaokahalema'uma'u`O Kalama
Chinky Kawaili'ula Mahoe, Kumu Hula – Halau Hula Kawaili'ula

Groups entering this event may present Hapa-Haole Hula, Englilsh Hula, or Hawaiian songs for their presentation.  The 2008 Ka La Hula i Reno – Kamoha'i Award, will be awarded to the group with the highest accumulated choreography score in any of the above categories.

A special Adjudicators Pick Award, the 2008 Ka La Hula i Reno – Best Hapa Haole Hula Award,  will be presented to the group with the best Hapa-Haole Hula presentation.  This special award will entitle the winning group entry as a Finalist in the 2008 Hapa Haole Hula & Music Festival, to be held at the Hale Koa Hotel in October 2008 (date TBA).  This award will be presented by Victoria Holt Takamine, founder of the Pa'i Foundation and the Hapa Haole Hula & Music Festival.
